Leading teams across borders
For close to two decades I've led engineering teams in European e-commerce. Today that means a group of around forty people in five countries, covering business intelligence and data warehousing, large-scale product data feeds, and long-running integrations with international partners.
Most of the job is about people: hiring and growing teams, supporting them across sites and time zones, and keeping projects, operations and budgets on track. I still enjoy building things myself, from lightweight web tools to larger applications, and I've coordinated outsourcing partners along the way.
